House Raffles In the Media
The Jackson Hole Home Raffle is set up to give away a three bedroom home in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, appraised at $735,000 (as of August 2008). With all proceeds donated to charity, a maximum of 15,000 tickets are on sale at $100 each. Unlike many other charity raffles, in addition to the property prize, all federal income tax will be paid by the charities on behalf of the winner (approx a $200,000 value).
40% of the proceeds of this house raffle will go to 501(c)(3) charity Jackson Volunteer Firefighters Association, which helps provide financial assistance and equipment to firefighters locally. Another 40% will help support Philmont Staff Association, an organization that runs a the Philmont Scout Ranch, which provides approximately 20,000 scouts and scouters each summer a backpacking experience in the mountains of northern New Mexico. The rest will be split evenly between American Outdoor Academy and Jackson Hole Community Counseling Center.
As of 21 July 2009, a total of 3,254 tickets have already been sold. The drawing will take place on October 1, 2009 or when all 15,000 tickets are sold, whichever occurs first. If 10,000 tickets are not sold, a full refund will be provided and the raffle will not occur.
This short video features the owner of the property, Brad Bradley, a seasonal wildland firefighter for Grand TetonNational Park and a volunteer firefighter with Jackson Hole Fire and EMS, providing more details about how he set up his charity house raffle.
