Michael Marin, owner of a luxury $3.5 million home on a golf course in Phoenix, is hoping to sell 176,000 raffle tickets at $25 apiece in support of local non-profit organization the Child Crisis Centre. In this ABC15 television interview, he explains the rationale behind this innovative way of "selling" his home.

Christine Scarpati, CEO of the Child Crisis Center, also speaks to ABC15, explaining her charity stands to benefit by up to $400,000 from the property raffle.

With charities like hers also suffering from the tough economic environment, she goes on to explain how this type of initiative is a welcome new source of potential funds: "All of the services that we got cut were providing for families that are at risk for for abuse and neglect. This will make up a huge amount of deficit," she said, explaining that this is the first time in nearly three decades that she has had to lay off some of her staff.

Marin, who is about to scale Mt. Everest in a few months and who intends to also give away his 1976 Rolls Royce vehicle in the raffle, offers his own point of view on the exercise: "I want to make sure that my life means something."
