House Raffle Winners
This year's Northwest Indiana House Raffle attracted 4,002 entries at $150 each, helping raise funds for St. Jude House and Southlake YMCA. The winners, local couple Ritchard and Debra Frevert, were announced this week and now face the difficult choice of picking 1 of 4 properties in Crown Point, Winfield, Cedar Lake and Lowell - or $200,000 in cash.
Every year, the charity house raffle typically attracts between 5,000 and 6,000 entries. Although this year was less successful, a strong finish ensured all the prizes were awarded as originally hoped.
The win comes at a perfect time for the Freverts, who were just about to sign a new lease for the home they had been renting locally for the last 10 years.
"Wow, I'm in seventh heaven, maybe eighth heaven," Frevert said Saturday morning to the Post Tribune. "I just called my wife and she's flipping out. We sold our last house and have been renting. Things really worked out for us."
